POWERBALL ROLLS OVER: $105 MILLION JACKPOT!!!
With no jackpot winners in any of five June draws so far, Wednesday's Powerball top prize has hit $105 million for matching all five numbers and the Powerball. Wednesday's massive jackpot is the fourth time that the US Powerball top prize broke the 9-digit dollar barrier in 2013. The first two times resulted in $217 million and $338 million jackpots!
The third 9-digit plus jackpot rollover run culminated in May, which was an extremely exciting month for the US Powerball. When a $360 million jackpot went without a winner in the Wedneday, 15th May draw, lottery fans in the US and around the world knew a big top prize was in the offing. The US Powerball estimated jackpot reached $600,000,000 by Friday night and Saturday's top prize settled at $590.5 million. This was still enough to give the American lottery a new personal best and a Floridian winner the largest jackpot ever claimed by a single ticket holder (both as an annuity or lump sum payment)!
The rollover increase of approximately $230 million was itself higher than the jackpot offered by any other lottery in 2013, and followed jumps ranging between $21 million and $90 million that strengthened the US Powerball position atop theBig during a 13-rollover run. The new record was set two rollovers faster than Powerball's $588 million jackpot, set less than six months earlier in November 2012. This is a positive sign of things to come for the popular American lottery, and a huge step towards it's $1 billion jackpot goal.
